Drug collection units now available at Waukesha County Sheriff's Department

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department has installed three drug collection units through a grant from CVS Pharmacy.

In participating in this program, the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department has taken steps to help keep harmful, unused medications out of the hands of children as well as out of the environment.

“The drug collection unit is a valuable tool in the community to assist in safely removing unneeded medications, especially opiates, from homes.  It will aid efforts county-wide to reduce the potential for abuse.  I encourage everyone to take advantage of it and drop off your medications today," Acting D.A. Sue Opper said.

The location of the three Drug Collection Units are: the lobby at the Sheriff’s Department in the City of Waukesha (open 24/7), the lobby at the Sheriff’s Sub-Station in the City of Pewaukee and the lobby at the Sheriff’s Sub-Station in the Village of Sussex.

These Drug Collection Units will allow the citizens that live in Waukesha County the opportunity to deposit unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs. It also deters the use or abuse of unused prescription medication.  The contents of the Drug Collection Units will be collected and prepared for disposal in accordance with Federal and State laws.
