Dump truck crash on I-41 in Germantown
GERMANTOWN -- A dump truck driver was flown to the hospital after a crash on I-41 in Germantown. It happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 6th.
A witness reported seeing the dump truck strike the Freistadt Road Bridge, which caused the truck to roll over, trapping the driver.
The driver, a 62-year-old Milwaukee man, was extricated from the vehicle by the Germantown Fire Department. He was transported to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life with non-life threatening injuries.
As a result of the crash, the northbound lanes of I-41 were closed for approximately three hours.
The investigation determined that the dump truck was working on a road improvement project in the area, and was hauling asphalt. After delivering a load, the operator failed to lower the box of the truck and he began to drive northbound. The raised box struck the bridge, which caused the dump box to separate from the truck. The truck rolled onto its roof.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
The Freistadt Road bridge received minor damage, and remains open to traffic.
The Germantown Police Department was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The Germantown Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Richfield and Lisbon Fire Departments.
