Dunks or divine inspiration? Catholics who are Badgers fans face conundrum

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Most fans of the Wisconsin Badgers will be watching the Final Four matchup with the Kentucky Wildcats on TV -- whether at home or at some restaurant or bar. But what if you have a conflict of epic proportion? What do you do?

"I want to see them go all the way and they're going to do it," said Ron Kreutzer, a Badgers fan.

Here's the thing. Kreutzer is also Catholic. FOX6 News caught up with him on Wednesday, April 1st going to Mass at Blessed Savior Catholic Parish. Kreutzer, like all Catholics, have a decision to make Saturday evening -- go to Easter Vigil or stay home and watch the big game.

"I did not know that the church services was the same time of the game," said Kreutzer.

So what is a fan to do?

"I hope that there will be more people paying attention to their priority before God in Wisconsin than they do in Kentucky," said Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki.

In other words, Archbishop Listecki is advising Catholics to go to church. But make no mistake, he's backing Bucky!

"Wisconsin? Absolutely, without a doubt. You know, I want to see them win," said Listecki. "And if anybody saw them play in the Elite 8, you got to know there was some divine inspiration on those shots that were taken by (Sam) Dekker."

What is Kreutzer going to do? Tip-off for the game is set for 7:49 p.m. on Saturday and Easter Vigil is at 8 p.m.

"Well, this Saturday is unusual because there is a church service. I will be attending that. And I can guarantee right after that, I'll be rushing home to watch the last part of the game because I won't hear it in church."

Archbishop Listecki wishes everyone a blessed Holy Week. He said keeping God as a priority in life keeps us straight and our goals constantly in line. Listecki also said he'll be praying for an extra boost for the Badgers.
