"Every spring!" The melting snow has revealed piles of garbage, and somebody's got to clean it up!

BROWN DEER (WITI) -- The mountains of snow that have covered Milwaukee this winter are finally started to melt, thanks to the warmer temperatures we're seeing this week. But the snow melt is revealing gaping potholes and lumps of garbage.

Cleaning up all the garbage revealed by the melting snow is a messy job, but someone's got to do it.

"Yep. Every spring!" Brian Bublitz with the Brown Deer Department of Public Works said. "Every day is different -- tree trimming one day, picking up trash the next, snow plowing. It`s all in a day's work."

Bublitz had been at it all morning Monday, March 9th.

This winter, we saw 41-and-a-half inches of snow across the region. The mountainous snow piles have become a familiar sight, but thanks to the sun and warmer temperatures, they're almost gone. The melting snow reveals a dirty landscape littered with trash and old car parts from winter accidents among other unsightly objects, like concrete, metal, glass bottles, soda pop cans, beer cans and more.

The Village of Brown Deer's Department of Public Works is in charge of streets and medians. Bublitz says this year's garbage isn't any worse than last.

"It's not too bad," Bublitz said. "People have been honking and saying 'good job' and 'looks good' and things like that," Bublitz said.

While the city takes care of the main roads, you are in charge of cleaning up your front and backyard. If you don't -- it'll cost you. Letting the garbage pile up could result in citations with fines as high as several hundred dollars.
