Exec. Dir. of Wisconsin Jobs Now says "The pain of the disenfranchised is screaming loudly"

MILWAUKEE -- The executive director of Wisconsin Jobs Now says her organization is poised to work with the community to create meaningful solutions in the wake of the unrest that has fallen upon the City of Milwaukee in the last few days.

"As has been said by many, our city is hurting," stated Martha De La Rosa, Executive Director of Wisconsin Jobs Now (WJN) in a news release. "The pain of the disenfranchised is screaming loudly and we as an organization are answering the call to help move our community toward healing and progress."

The unrest was concentrated in the Sherman Park neighborhood -- and was prompted in part by the officer-involved fatal shooting of 23-year-old Sylville Smith.

"The city is traumatized by recent events, but we are not defeated. We are resilient and we will move forward together," added De La Rosa. "We do not condone what has occurred the last few nights,’ expressed De La Rosa “But we know that what has occurred is the outgrowth of deeply entrenched systemic issues in our community."
