Experts survey storm damage at homes, businesses in Hustisford

HUSTISFORD (WITI) -- Experts with the National Weather Service (NWS) were in the Dodge County Town of Hustisford on Monday, November 18th. They're now assessing damage suffered from storms that barreled through that community on Sunday.

Hustisford residents like Dan and Brenda Bamke are beginning their own cleanup after the storms. They watched helplessly on Sunday as Mother Nature uprooted trees, thrashed their shed and caused their garage to collapse.

"I could see the leave and stuff going like this and I said this thing is no wind, I think it's a tornado," said Dan Bamke.

According to the NWS, Hustisford was hit not by a tornado, but powerful straight-line winds.

"Across the road we also had a telephone pole being taken down and basically looking at kind of structural damage consistent with winds at certain velocities," said Amy Nehls, Deputy Dir. of Dodge Co. Emergency Management. "They were seeing the storm come through at 50 m.p.h. and they would get 50 m.p.h. downbursts. So they're talking some of this damage is probably consistent with 100 m.p.h. winds."

Across the street from the Bamkes, the Town Hall suffered damage as well. Winds tore off shingles, bent the flag pole over and much more.

Dodge County Emergency Management indicates homes owned by a handful of residents in the rural area suffered the most damage. Thankfully, no people or animals were hurt.
