Fans have varying reactions to personal phone calls from Braun

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Suspended Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun personally called Brewers season ticket holders, as well as 20-game ticket holders, on Thursday, September 5th to apologize for his actions involving performance enhancing drugs.

The Brewers told FOX6 it was Braun's idea to call fans and he asked for a list of ticket holders last week. The team did not provide Braun with any sort of scripted apology.

Brewers fan and owner of Kelly's Bleachers, Pat Guenther, has been a season ticket holder for two decades. He said he was both shocked and thrilled to receive a phone call from Braun.

"I picked up the phone and chuckled. I said 'hello, how can I help you? This is Pat.' He said 'Hi Pat, this is Ryan Braun.' I knew right away it was his voice," said Guenther.

During the three-minute conversation, Guenther says Braun apologized for the scandal surrounding his use of PEDs and asked for forgiveness.

"His humbleness, you could hear it in his voice," said Guenther. "Whether he made one call to me, or a hundred calls, he has a fan in me now, for sure."

For another Brewers fan, Wes Aldridge, the apology may be too little, too late. Although it took a lot for Braun to apologize personally to some fans, Aldridge says he may decide to no longer be a season ticket holder.

"He did what he did. It was wrong. I don't know if he can ever justify it. How it will make it better? I don't know," said Aldridge.

It's unclear whether Braun is continuing to make personal phone calls to fans or how many calls he actually made.
