Fans make Kelly's Bleachers part of their Opening Day tradition
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Opening Day excitement wasn't contained to Miller Park. Many of the nearby bars played host to Brewers fans on Monday, March 31st -- including Kelly's Bleachers on Bluemound Road in Milwaukee.
Many have made the bar a tradition on Opening Day.
“Everybody is cheering at the same time -- just a good atmosphere,” said Wendy Meidl.
“We do this every year -- good friends, good people,” said Bob Beres.
One draw is Kelly's Bleachers starts the party early! The doors opened Monday at 6:00 a.m.! Although they did have a few customers at that hour, the main reason for the early start is to make sure the staff is ready.
“We have everybody. We even had to bring a few extras in that used to work here and help out,” said Patrick Guenther, one of the owners of Kelly’s Bleachers.
After so many years hosting the party, they've got the preparations down. They start a week beforehand to make sure they have all the music, drinks, food and games they need to celebrate the Brewers.
“The tent is up, both bars are at full capacity -- we`re going to run real well today,” said Guenther.
Kelly's Bleachers also had shuttles running to and from the stadium. They started about three hours before the game instead of their typical hour-and-a-half. Guenther said they instruct the drivers to run the shuttles all day so people don’t have to drive.
