On Monday, Feb. 26, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the driver of the striking vehicle as 22-year-old Alexander Quintero-Garcia.
According to the investigation report, Alexander Quintero-Garcia was driving a Chevrolet Malibu south down 13th Street at a high rate of speed, when he lost control and crashed into the back of the other vehicle, a Mazda3, and then crashed into a brick building.
No one saw the actual crash, but bystanders heard the crash and came outside to pull Quintero-Garcia out of his car which had started on fire. They also called 911.
Despite life-saving efforts, Quintero-Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.
A later investigation showed a large debris field across the road, stretching 270 feet. It was littered with plastic vehicle pieces. The engine of the Malibu had protruded into the cabin, with the vehicle otherwise completely destroyed by fire.
No evidence of alcohol, cigarettes, or illegal drug abuse was found on or near Quintero-Garcia. All personal property from his pockets was turned over to the police.
The medical examiner's office spoke to Quintero-Garcia's aunt, who said he had a history of drinking alcohol socially, but she also said since he moved out last year she did not know if he abused alcohol, smoked or used illicit drugs.
