OZAUKEE COUNTY -- The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office and Wisconsin State Patrol are investigating a fatal wreck that happened on southbound I-43 just south of Pebble Beach Rd. in the Town of Belgium on Tuesday evening, September 15th.
According to authorities, at approximately 6:33 p.m. a State Trooper observed a 4-door Toyota Camry traveling in excess of 70 m.p.h. The State Trooper attempted to catch up to the vehicle, which lost control and traveled through the median. The vehicle struck a semi that was traveling southbound, causing the semi to catch fire.
The impact caused the death of the driver of the northbound vehicle. That man has been identified as Zeron Harrell of Milwaukee.
Officials say the vehicle was reported stolen out of St. Francis. There was drug paraphernalia, marijuana and a loaded handgun found inside the vehicle. The handgun was reported stolen out of Milwaukee.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-43 were shut down until early Wednesday morning, September 16th. Traffic was being diverted northbound at County Highway D (exit #107) in the Town of Belgium and southbound at State Highway 32/Sauk Trail Rd. (exit 113) in Cedar Grove (Sheboygan County).
The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Department is handling the crash investigation.
