Father of Kelly Dwyer speaks out after human remains found: "Until we have closure, it`s not over"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Experts this week have been analyzing human remains discovered this past weekend in Jefferson County. An autopsy was performed on Monday, May 4th, and officials were then making comparisons using dental records. Officials in Jefferson County said Wednesday, May 6th no positive identification has yet been made. This, as the father of Kelly Dwyer, missing since October 2013 talked with FOX6 News about the hope his family could get closure and his plans for the future -- whether these remains are Kelly Dwyer or not.

Tony Dwyer

"We have all felt since the very beginning that Kelly is no longer with us and has not been with us for a very long time," Tony Dwyer said.

The family is now looking to human remains discovered in Jefferson County Friday, May 1st -- wondering if it could be Kelly. If it is...

"The family has closure and knows what happened to their daughter. That in itself is a huge form of closure and one that I pray every day I'm going to be able to touch," Tony Dwyer said.

Kelly Dwyer's dental records are being compared to the remains to determine whether there is a match.

"Kelly is so deserving of proper burial, a funeral, a way for her friends and loved ones in Milwaukee to grieve. A candlelight vigil. We haven't even thought of it because she's a missing person right now," Tony Dwyer said.

Whatever the answer that comes from officials in Jefferson County, Tony Dwyer says he's researching ways to help others in similar situations -- whether it be helping families of missing children or improving safety for young women.

"We've been researching for months. I've had so many conversations with so many parents who are in this situation," Tony Dwyer said. "I'd love kelly to be remembered as somebody who helped society with a maJor problem."

In the meantime, for the Dwyer family, waiting is the only certainty right now.

"It's like a baseball team playing an eight-inning baseball game. They never get to finish it because they can't get up in the ninth inning. Until we have closure, it's not over. It's not better. It's an absolute living hell," Tony Dwyer said.

If the remains found in Jefferson County are not Kelly, private search efforts will resume.

Tony Dwyer has hired the Sosh agency to help with his future efforts in finding Kelly and helping others.
