File a claim in connection with LCD laptops, monitors, TVs? Check your mailbox starting Wednesday
MADISON (WITI) — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has announced Wisconsin consumers who filed valid claims in connection with the purchase of LCD laptops, monitors and TVs should check their mailboxes this week. The claims administrator for the LCD antitrust case will begin mailing checks on Wednesday, October 29th to Wisconsin consumers and businesses who filed valid claims.
For every computer monitor or laptop claimed, the claimant will receive $43.49, and $86.98 for each LCD TV.
For example, a Wisconsin consumer who claimed one laptop, one desktop monitor and two televisions would receive a check for $260.94. All totaled, Wisconsin consumers, businesses and public entities will receive more than $27 million dollars from the settlement. The State of Wisconsin also has received $1.5 million in civil penalties, which has already been paid.
“Price-fixing raises costs to consumers and creates an uneven playing field for businesses,” Attorney General J.B Van Hollen said. “The settlement we obtained will help compensate Wisconsin consumers for their overpayments for televisions and computer monitors.”
Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, seven other attorneys general, and private purchaser lawyers announced this record breaking $1.1 billion multistate settlement with manufacturers of TFT-LCD panels in 2012. The settlement came after extensive antitrust litigation arising from industry-wide state and federal investigations into an alleged conspiracy among thin film transistor liquid-crystal display (TFT-LCD) panel manufacturers to prevent competition and increase prices for TFT-LCD Panels.
