MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee fire officials battled a blaze in a townhouse complex near 20th and Layton that occurred around 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 24th.
Officials say a middle-aged man, who was the only occupant of the unit where the fire broke out, was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation and burns. He is believed to be in critical condition.
Fire officials say the fire started in the rear room on the second floor of the three-story apartment, which sustained significant damage. Officials say the top half of all the doors were damaged.
It’s unknown if the room was a bedroom or an office.
Fire officials say no smoke detectors were present in the townhouse.
There are three units attached to the townhouse that caught fire, though none sustained any damage. However, residents of those townhouses may be displaced, as all four units are connected to the same gas meter.
Due to the fire, We Energies had to shut off the gas to the complex.
