Former Sen. Hopper steps down from economic development corp.

SHEBOYGAN (AP) -- Former state Sen. Randy Hopper has resigned as head of the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corp.

The 46-year-old Republican had led the organization since June, after being recalled from office the previous summer. His resignation came Tuesday, October 30th -- the same day he was cited in Fond du Lac County for first-offense drunken driving.

Board President Gary Dulmes says the group is beginning its search for a permanent replacement. The organization works to recruit new businesses to Sheboygan County and retain existing ones.

Hopper was previously arrested for drunken driving in 2011. A jury acquitted him five months later.

Hopper's wife filed to get a temporary restraining order against him last week.

Online court records didn't list an attorney for Hopper.
