RACINE -- Road conditions are improving in Racine County after Friday's snowfall. Roads were slippery and snow covered during the afternoon and evening rush hour Friday, but as snow lightened up, plows were able to catch up in the evening.

The Racine County Sheriff's Department told FOX6 it had received calls for several cars in ditches and a few minor accidents during the day. Sheriff's officials had asked people not to drive unless necessary, but a few people couldn't help venturing out to see "The Big Chill" snow sculpting competition in Monument Square in downtown Racine.

"It was a little slippery and, of course, everybody went about ten miles an hour, so it took a little extra time, " snow sculptor Steve Smith said.

30 plows worked to clear the main streets in the City of Racine during the day.  At midnight, fresh crews were brought in to plow the side streets and neighborhood streets.

Plowing continued on highways in Racine County throughout the night.
