MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A week ago, Lorenzo Mena had a van and electric wheelchair stolen from Milwaukee's south side. The van was recovered three days later, but the wheelchair was gone. Now, one generous FOX6 News viewer has stepped up to help out.
Mena only has one leg -- and needs an electric wheelchair to get around -- and Dan Hoem, who saw Mena's story on FOX6, couldn't resist pitching in a helping hand. He donated on Monday, August 18th, a Hoverround wheelchair to Mena.
"Better than selling it. You give it to someone who needs it," said Hoem.
Hoem and his siblings bought the electric wheelchair for their father, John. Sadly, he never used it. And then in April, John Hoem passed away from prostate cancer.
"I'm glad it has a home, where it's going to fill a need. I think that is important to me, it's important to my family and I know it would be important to my father," said Hoem.
"Well, I`m gonna use it for sure, pretty soon," said Mena. "It`s pretty good, it works good."
Now these strangers are friends.
