LOS ANGELES -- Garry Marshall, legendary TV and film producer and writer known for shows such as “Mork and Mindy,” “Happy Days,” “Laverne & Shirley,” as well as films including, “Pretty Woman,” “Beaches” and “Runaway Bride,” has died at the age of 81, according to Variety and other published reports.
Family members confirmed Marshall's death to Variety, CBS News, and Access Hollywood.
The New York native was born Garry Kent Maschiarelli on Nov. 13, 1934, according to the website IMDB. Marshall was married to Barbara for 53 years, and they had 3 kids.
Marshall’s sister, actress Penny Marshall, starred as Laverne DeFazio in "Laverne & Shirley.”
Other well-known TV shows Marshall worked on included: “Angie,” “Love, American Style, “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “The Odd Couple” and “Gomer Pyle: USMC.”
According to TMZ, Marshall died at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19th due to complications from pneumonia. He suffered a stroke awhile ago and was in and out of the hospital.
