Germantown police use Narcan to save life of possible heroin overdose victim

GERMANTOWN -- Germantown police saved the life of a 30-year-old man who was found unconscious -- possibly from a heroin overdose.

It was just before midnight on Monday, May 16th that a 911 call came in from the roommate of the 30-year-old man. Officials say the victim was on the ground, breathing sporadically and losing color in his lips.

When officers arrived on the scene, they began CPR. But a short time later, they located drug paraphernalia and what was believed to be heroin. Because of this discovery, officers determined that the victim was suffering from a possible narcotic overdose. The officers administered Narcan. At that time, Germantown Fire and Rescue arrived and administered another dose. Shortly after the second dose, the man regained consciousness. He was then taken to Community Memorial Hospital for additional treatment.

By 5 a.m. Tuesday, officials say the man was treated and released to police custody. He was arrested on a felony drug charge and transported to the Washington County Jail.
