Germantown police, Washington Co. Sheriff's officials investigate vehicle break-ins during sporting events

GERMANTOWN -- Germantown police, and officials with the Washington County Sheriff's Office are investigating thefts from vehicles broken into while vehicle owners were attending their children's sporting events this past weekend.

In Washington County, these thefts happened at Heritage Trails County Park on County Trunk E.

Sheriff's officials say on Sunday, September 25th, around 3:00 p.m., they were called out to Heritage Trails County Park to investigate a report of a vehicle that was broken into while the owner was attending her child's soccer game.

Deputies located a total of six vehicles that had been broken into while the vehicles' owners were watching the soccer game. Windows were broken out of all six vehicles, and various items were taken -- ranging from cash to credit cards to electronics.

The suspects have been described as two black males, in a black four-door vehicle.

Washington County Sheriff's officials are stepping up patrols in areas where youth sporting events are taking place in response to these thefts. They are also warning vehicle owners NOT to leave valuables in their vehicles for thieves to take.

Meanwhile, Germantown police say thefts occurred Sunday during sporting events held at athletic fields throughout the village, including soccer fields on Fond du Lac Avenue, south of Donges Bay Road and the athletic fields near Kennedy Middle School.

FOX6 News is told three vehicles were broken into at FC Milwaukee National Soccer Field on Fond du Lac, south of Donges Bay Road between 11:40 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

One vehicle was broken into at Kennedy Middle School.

Windows were smashed on all four of the vehicles, and purses were taken from the vehicles, including miscellaneous items like cell phones, wallets, money, credit cards.

It's unclear whether the same suspects are responsible for the break-ins and thefts in Washington County and Germantown.

Germantown police, too, are encouraging vehicle owners to NOT leave valuables in plain sight inside their vehicles.

If you saw any suspicious activity on Sunday at one of the athletic fields mentioned above, you're asked to call police or Washington County Sheriff's officials.
