Girl Scout sells 2,000 boxes of cookies
FOX POINT (WITI) -- Soaring cookie sales help a Fox Point girl make a heartfelt donation. Still organizing shipments and pick-ups, 8-year-old Callie Olson is one dedicated Girl Scout.
“This is our first year as a cookie family,” said her mom Julie. Unbeknownst to Julie, when Callie got the order form she already had her own goal in mind. “She said to me, ‘did you know that I could win a MacBook if I sell 2,000 boxes.’ I said I didn’t know you needed a Mac book, she said ‘no for Joshua,’” added Julie.
Joshua is Callie’s uncle who was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Julie said, “It didn’t occur to me she had been listening to me with the whole process of the diagnosis and illness and hospitalizations. She happened to know he had a MacBook and it died and he couldn’t afford to replace it.”
Callie’s love for her uncle put her to the ultimate challenge. She hit the pavement and her parents even went full throttle, networking through Facebook and appealing to different organizations nationwide selling cookies. Just when Julie thought she tapped out all her resources, “That’s when strangers started collecting orders at work with the general feeling was I want to be part of this,” she added.
Julie was touched by their gestures and Callie’s actions as she tried to help her uncle who’s disease is debilitating.
He plays violin and his fingers have no feeling in them. His fingers are numb and he likes to play violin. The MacBook laptop computer would let him continue his passion.
Callie said, “It’s garage band and it mixes music.” After hearing the feat that little Callie completed, uncle Joshua was more than grateful. “He was happy and he almost started crying and he called me one day to say thank you,” she added.
Callie actually sold the 2,000 boxes of cookies a week before the deadline. The money from the cookie sales will help finance the troops activities throughout the year.
