Glendale police: Ruthie the pit bull, found emaciated, dies after 'brave battle with cancer'

Ruthie

GLENDALE -- Glendale police announced on Tuesday, Jan. 30 that Ruthie, a pit bull that was found emaciated and with liver cancer, has died.

Ruthie was found on June 9 near Silver Spring and the Milwaukee River Parkway in Glendale. She was later adopted by the officer who cared for her after she was found.

A Facebook post by the Glendale Police Department says the following:

"Rest assured that between the immense amount of love and attention that she received from her family, and the amazing support she received from all of you, the past seven months of Ruthie’s life were filled with joy and happiness. She received top-of-the-line medical care and was never wanting for anything. She went from a malnourished and neglected cast-off who was brought to us by a caring resident, to a cherished and loved member of an amazing family. In the relatively short amount of time that Ruthie shared with us, she gave as much love, if not more, than she received."
