"Going to be searching the mine:" Dispatch audio released after 3 boys rescued from Neda mine
DODGE COUNTY -- Three teenage boys were rescued from an abandoned mine in Dodge County on July 11th -- and now, for the first time, we are hearing what took place behind-the-scenes during that rescue.
Dispatch audio: "Three male subjects, approximately 15 years old, riding pedal bikes."
On July 10th, 16-year-old Tate Rose, 16-year-old Zachary Heron and 15-year-old Samuel Lein made their way into the abandoned Neda mine.
A report that the boys were missing came in around 9:45 p.m. on July 10th.
The rescue effort spanned 24 hours.
Dispatch audio: "Now their phones are dead and they can`t get ahold of them."

The boys' bicycles were located around 2:00 a.m. on July 11th near the mine.
Dispatch audio: "I have the three bikes. Three bikes laying in the grass in the tall weeds. I need some assistance here."
Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt said the boys simply became curious, and entered the abandoned mine, where they got turned around and couldn't find their way out.
They ended up sleeping in the mine after their phones died, and they were rescued on the afternoon of July 11th.
Rescue crews were called in from as far away as Milwaukee and Madison, as, for hours, the old iron mine tunnels were searched, along with the heavily wooded area surrounding the mine.
Dispatch audio: "We`re going to be searching the mine or the mine area."

There were, and are, "no trespassing" signs posted at the mine. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee owns the land -- and UWM officials are not pursuing charges against the boys.
