Gov. Evers signs bill allowing for larger liquor sales
MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers has signed into law a measure supported by mega-liquor store Total Wine & More that allows for larger quantities of liquor to be sold at a single transaction at certain stores.
The measure Evers signed Monday pertains to liquor stores and other places that sell alcohol for consumption off premises, but that also offer larger samples of beer, wine or hard liquor to customers.
Those retailers with Class B liquor licenses were limited to selling no more than four liters of hard alcohol to a single customer in any one transaction. There was no limit on beer or wine sales.
The law change Evers signed allows for unlimited liters of hard alcohol to be purchased.
Total Wine has been lobbying lawmakers since 2018 to make the change.
