Gov. Mike Pence, Donald Trump's running mate, to campaign in Waukesha area Wednesday

MADISON — Donald Trump's running mate Mike Pence is expected to make his first solo campaign stop as the Republican vice presidential nominee in southeast Wisconsin on Wednesday night, July 27th.

A Republican with knowledge of the campaign's plans told The Associated Press on Monday that the Indiana governor plans a campaign stop in the Waukesha area, a Republican stronghold in Wisconsin.

More details about the event are expected Tuesday.

Waukesha Republicans have confirmed to FOX6 News Pence will speak at the Waukesha County Expo Center.

"We just heard that Gov. Pence is going to be coming to Wisconsin. We're very excited," Robin Moore, president of the Republican Women of Waukesha County said.

Moore says Pence helped unify the party after a rocky start to the Republican National Convention. She said she believes Pence will help win over Waukesha voters, who backed Ted Cruz in the April primary.

"Bringing the positive message, the unifying message that Gov. Pence is going to be bringing here on Wednesday -- we just can`t wait.  We`re really excited," Moore said.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is a close political ally and friend of Pence.

"Mike Pence in particular is a good friend of mine, fellow governor, someone I`ve grown to be very well connected with over the last few years and so I`m thrilled he`s on the ballot as well as Donald Trump," Walker said.

Trump lost Wisconsin's primary in April by 13 points. Trump must do well among Republicans in southeast Wisconsin, where the anti-Trump movement was strong, in order to carry the state in November.
