Gov. Walker announces $4.3 million for airport safety project
MILWAUKEE -- Gov. Scott Walker Monday, October 1st announced a $4.3 million project for Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport.
The project is intended to improve aviation safety by constructing a secured perimeter roadway system around the airport.
The project includes a perimeter road bridge over Howell Avenue and a perimeter road extension from the 128th Air Refueling Wing to College Avenue. The project will allow airport support vehicles to access all areas of the airfield without having to cross taxiways and runways or travel on public streets.
Funding for the program is expected to come from the state ($537,000) the County ($537,000) and the FAA ($3,225,000)
The project is scheduled to be completed by summer 2013.
