Gov. Walker touts child tax credit proposal in statewide tour: "1 more way of helping families"

MILWAUKEE -- In his State of the State address Wednesday, Jan. 24, Governor Scott Walker introduced the child tax credit. On Thursday, he toured Wisconsin to highlight the proposal.

If passed, each family would be eligible to claim $100 per child, as long as they're under the age of 18 and living at home. The plan comes on the heels of a surplus in the state budget.

"This is one more way of helping families and children do better in the state of Wisconsin. I hope the Democrats and Republicans alike will support this, but this is saying 'hey, the government is taking too much of your money. We're sending it back now,'" said Governor Walker.

Walker says the credit would benefit more than 600,000 Wisconsin families. The proposal, however, is not a done deal yet.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says it will take some time to see if senators want to pass it.
