Grafton fire destroys garage, car; no injuries, pets rescued

A Grafton fire destroyed an attached garage and the car parked inside, but the home itself avoided significant damage on Monday afternoon.

It happened near 1st and Maple around 3 p.m. The Grafton Fire Department said smoke could be seen from blocks away.

Firefighters arrived to find the home's garage fully engulfed, but were able to knock down the flames before they spread to the inside of the home.

One resident was able to get out unharmed. Firefighters safely removed two pets.

The Cedarburg, Port Washington and Saukville fire departments assisted at the scene, as did Grafton police officers and Ozaukee County sheriff's deputies.
