GREEN BAY (WITI) -- The Leo Frigo Bridge in Green Bay will reopen to traffic on Sunday, January 5th – twelve days earlier than the expected.
Gov. Scott Walker toured the bridge site with area officials, contractors, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation on Friday, January 3rd.
In a statement released after the tour, Gov. Scott Walker said, “Our top priority from the start has been to get this critical part of the state’s transportation infrastructure fixed and back in service in a safe and timely manner."
The bridge will open just in time to ease traffic for those heading to Lambeau Field to see the Green Bay Packers square off against the San Francisco 49ers.
The bridge has been closed since September 25th, when one of the piers sank unexpectedly. State engineers determined unique soil conditions contributed to corrosion in five piers and those piers required extensive repairs.
