WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Town of Geneva police have released gruesome details about a death investigation FOX6 News first told you about on Thursday, June 5th. Officials say two bodies have been recovered. They were found inside suitcases.
According to officials, an employee with the Town of Geneva Highway Department observed two suitcases in long grass in a ditch while cutting grass Thursday afternoon, June 5th.
“Everybody’s just shocked and scared. We want to find out what’s happening and going on," said Betty Hall, local resident.
Authorities say the suitcases were placed at the side of the road to allow the grass to be cut.
A short time later, the Town of Geneva Police Department responded to a complaint from a citizen regarding two suitcases sitting along the side of N. Como Rd, east of Co. Rd. H.
"When our officers went out, they opened the suitcases and found a body in each of two suitcases," said Chief Steve Hurley.
Autopsies were conducted Friday at the Waukesha Medical Examiner’s Office.
At this time, authorities are working with law enforcement agencies -- reviewing missing person’s reports.
"Where the bodies were found is not the crime scene where the crime was committed. This is not typical of the Town of Geneva at all," said Hurley.
The Town of Geneva Police Department says they hope to learn additional information following the autopsies that will assist in identifying the individuals.
The Town of Geneva Police Department is being assisted by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office with this investigation.
This is an ongoing investigation and updates will be released as they become available.
"This is a quiet place. We don’t have crime here," said Hall.
Authorities say the citizens of the Town of Geneva can rest assured that this is an isolated incident and the crime did not occur where the bodies were located.
"All I can say at this time people will have to take law enforcement’s word for the fact that they don’t have any real concerns here," said Hurley.
