Hazmat team called out to business in Racine for semi leaking sodium hydroxide

RACINE -- A hazmat team was called out to a business on Stannard Street on Thursday, December 17th for a chemical leak.

Racine Fire Department officials say a semi hauling sodium hydroxide (a corrosive chemical used in the plating process) was discovered leaking at Wisconsin Plating Works' receiving docks.

The building is located near 6th and S. Marquette Street.

Approximately 30 gallons leaked from a 250 gallon square transport container.

The Racine Fire Department's Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team arrived and had the incident quickly under control.

No injuries reported.

None of the chemical reached the storm drains, so no water was contaminated.
