"He embodied our core mission:" Marquette University remembers James Foley

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The execution of James Foley is on the minds of many at Marquette University. Foley graduated from the school in 1996.

New students on campus were welcomed at a convocation on Wednesday evening, August 20th. It was an evening to celebrate a new beginning -- and remember an alumnus who has left a lasting legacy.

An opening prayer remembered Foley, the journalist killed by terrorists this week. The Marquette community reflected on the man, who they say was the very definition of the school motto to "be the difference."

"He faced down fear and risked his very life  for the betterment of the human community," said University President Michael Lovell.

Lovell used Foley's story as a guide for those who are embarking on a new chapter at Marquette.

"He embodied our core mission as to what it means to live life in service to others," said Lovell.

Marquette University is planning a vigil to remember James Foley. It is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26th at 6:00 p.m.  It will be held in the Church of the Gesu on the Marquette campus, 1145 W. Wisconsin Ave.  CLICK HERE for more information.

All members of the Marquette and Milwaukee communities are welcome to attend.
