MICHIGAN (WITI) -- Two men who recently made headlines after a father thought he had met his long-lost son are in shock after finding out through a paternity test that they are not actually related.

FOX6 News told you about an 81-year-old man who believed he had found a son he never knew existed after he discovered a letter his wife had hidden from him for decades.

The story was a great and emotional one — but there was an unexpected twist.

According to FOX 17 in West Michigan, a paternity test showed no relation between 81-year-old Tony Trapani and 61-year-old Samuel Childress -- who believed they were father and son.

FOX 17 broke the original story, and did note that everything was pending a blood test.

“It kind of shocked me a little bit. Instead of being 99%, it was zero and it kind of set me back. I mean, it’s just like a shock to me," Childress told FOX 17.

Questions still remain regarding the original letter. According to FOX 17, it was indeed sent by Childress’ mother, and it read, “I have a little boy. He is five years old now. What I’m trying to say Tony is he is your son. He was born November 13th, 1953.″

Trapani said he found the letter hidden in an old file cabinet belonging to his wife after her passing.

Despite the recent shock, however, Childress told FOX 17 he still considers Trapani his father. He said Trapani feels the same way.

“I call him every day, and talking to him -- he says the same thing about you know, the result. He said, ‘It doesn’t matter what that says. I know you are my son,'" Childress told FOX 17.
