SHEBOOYGAN (WITI) -- The City of Sheboygan Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire on Erie Avenue Wednesday night, July 30th.
Upon arrival, crews observed heavy black smoke and flames coming from the front windows on the second floor of the two-story house and heavy black smoke out the back windows and entrance.
According to officials, the conditions made it impossible for crews to enter far enough into the building to extinguish the fire, and they were forced to retreat.
A ladder truck was quickly placed into position at the front of the building and a master stream was used to flow large volumes of water into the involved area.
That stream, coupled with another hand line aimed through the windows, was enough to extinguish the main body of fire.
Firefighters were then able to re-enter the apartment from the rear and completely extinguish the fire.
Officials say the ceiling was pulled down to expose areas of involvement in the attic -- and smoldering areas were extinguished before further extension could take place.
Seven people were displaced by the fire.
Lodging was arranged for them by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
