"Her best friend stabbed her:" 13-year-old turns herself in; victim spends 14th birthday in the hospital

A young girl had to celebrate her 14th birthday in the hospital, after she says her best friend stabbed her on July 23rd. Police say the 13-year-old suspect turned herself in five days later.

"She sounded real hysterical," Crystal Davis said.

Davis on Monday, August 1st recalled a telephone call she received about her daughter, Armonee.

"Her best friend stabbed her. I'm like 'excuse me?!'" Davis said.

It still hadn't sunk in completely by the time Davis got to 62nd and Carmen.

"There was blood all on the front of the house, up the stairs," Davis said.

"When she stabbed me, it just got numb," Armonee Edwards said.

The wound caused Edwards' lung to collapse.

"They had to make another hole inside me because my lungs collapsed, and they put something inside here," Edwards said.

Edwards said it started as a fist fight -- a first between the two best friends, who were celebrating Edwards' birthday a day early with others. Edwards said someone gave her friend the knife.

"When we were done fighting she got up off the ground and he handed her a knife and she ran up to me and stabbed me. She took off running down the street," Edwards said.

Police say the 13-year-old suspect turned herself in five days later. This case is now being handled in juvenile court.

"I`m just trusting the justice system from this point on. And I just know I have to be a lot smarter because it don`t seem like things are getting better out here," Davis said.

Edwards says there were no adults at the house when the stabbing happened, and they were egged on during the fight by others.

Edwards was in the hospital for a week.

Davis said her daughter's injury could have long-term impacts on her health.
