Heroin-related death: Matthew Berg sentenced to nine years in prison
WAUKESHA (WITI) -- A Waukesha County judge sentenced 22-year-old Matthew Berg on Monday, June 16th to nine years in prison and another nine years of extended supervision. Berg pleaded guilty in April in connection with the death of Alexandra Stellhorn.
Stellhorn, 21, was found dead in a closet at her parents’ home in Waukesha in August 2013. The medical examiner determined her death was from “acute heroin intoxication with a factor being alcohol in her system.”
The complaint against Berg indicated he met Stellhorn on Facebook. Then on Thursday, August 22nd, the complaint says Berg took $40 from Stellhorn and another $20 for a third person and bought a bag of heroin near 30th and Cherry in Milwaukee. They later drove back to Waukesha.
Berg was initially charged with first-degree reckless homicide and felony bail jumping. But the bail jumping count was dismissed after Berg entered a guilty plea to the homicide charge.
