Homeowners, be vigilant: Mount Pleasant police have six home burglary reports since April 3rd
MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- Mount Pleasant police say they've handled six burglary reports since April 3rd -- five of them involving homes that were occupied at the time of the crime.
Police say these incidents have happened in the early morning hours. Several residents were asleep while the burglaries took place.
In one case, the homeowner located a suspect in his closet. However, the suspect fled the scene and was not located.
Several of the burglaries took place within a short distance from each other.
No one was injured while these crimes were being committed.
The dates and locations as to these incidents are as follows:
The suspects in these burglaries did not force entry into the houses. The suspects looked for unlocked doors and windows.
Residents are being asked to lock all their doors and windows and consider investing in security lighting at all entry points to their homes in order to deter criminal activity.
No one has been arrested in connection with these crimes. Mount Pleasant officers and investigators are following up on leads developed from the collection of evidence at the various crime scenes. It is possible all of the burglaries were committed by the same suspects.
During one of these investigations, a witness reported that on April 12th at 8:30 p.m. he observed two suspicious people standing in front of his residence located in the 4400 block of West Way Ave. He described the two suspects as being young teens. One was a heavy-set white male and the other was a black male. The two suspects were startled and fled upon being confronted by the witness.
After giving chase, the witness lost sight of these suspects. He apparently did not report that interaction to the police when the incident took place. It is possible that these suspects are responsible for these burglaries.
Police say a sixth burglary occurred in Mount Pleasant at the opposite end of the village in the 2100 block of Mead Street Sunday afternoon. The home was not occupied. There is no evidence linking this case to the others above.
Upon observing suspicious activity or people, please contact the Mount Pleasant Police Department immediately at 262-886-2300. Do not attempt to go after or confront these individuals.
In response to these burglaries the Mount Pleasant Police Department will dedicate extra patrols in the high crime areas.
These cases are actively being investigated by investigators at the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
