Homicide case: Racine police identify 41-year-old man found dead near Durand & Indiana Street

RACINE -- Racine police have identified a 41-year-old man who was found dead near Durand Avenue and Indiana Street on Tuesday, January 19th.

Police say this is a homicide investigation.

The victim has been identified as Michael Hardy.

Hardy was found around 4:00 p.m. as police were conducting a welfare check.

No one is in custody.

The manner of death in this case has not been released.

“I was really shocked to see all the police cars and all that around," Dennis Raymond, who lives in the area where the man was found dead, told FOX6 News. "I said 'oh, I hope it wasn't a homicide or, you know, I thought maybe it might have been a dope bust."

None of the neighbors FOX6 News spoke with said they had ever met Hardy. But they did say this death hits too close to home.

“I thought this was a pretty decent neighborhood and then find out it’s actually happening in decent neighborhoods too," Raymond said.

State records show Hardy had several run-ins with the law, including convictions for battery.
