MADISON (AP) -- Wisconsin's other sturgeon season is about to begin.
February's sturgeon spearing season on the Lake Winnebago System is known nationally as an ice angler's paradise. The spearing season's lesser known cousin, the hook-and-line season, starts Sept. 1 and runs through the end of the month on several major rivers and lakes.
A complete listing of waters open to harvest is available on the state Department of Natural Resources' lake sturgeon website.
Anyone who plans on harvesting a sturgeon must purchase a tag from the DNR. Tags cost $20 for residents and $50 for nonresidents.
