MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee County judge sentenced Carl Howell on Monday, February 25th to two years probation one count of misconduct in public office and one count of felony theft.
Howell changed his plea on Monday to guilty in reference to the charges with which he was accused. The judge sentenced Howell to six months in the House of Correction for each of those charges -- but he stayed those sentences and opted instead for probation alone.
Howell was accused of responding to a burglary complaint at the Hopkins Food Mart in Milwaukee on Tuesday, November 20th. The complaint indicated that during the investigation, the owner of the food mart showed Howell a drawer that contained cash belonging to the business that was not taken during the burglary. The complaint then indicated Howell took some of that cash and placed it in his own pocket. The actions of Howell were captured on surveillance video.
If Howell should violate his probation, he could still face up to one year in the House of Correction.
