"I know people who have lost friends:" In wake of Orlando mass shooting, here's how you can help

ORLANDO -- There have been signs of support for Orlando across the world, and the city is doing what they can to support each other. FOX6 News saw long lines as people donated blood on Tuesday, June 14th. But what can you do?

If there was only a way to capture how it feels in Orlando in June.

Tom Johnson is in Orlando, he's just one of dozens of volunteers loading items to be sent to those affected by the tragedy.

"It's horrible. I didn't know anybody. But I do know people who have lost friends. It's been really bad," said Johnson.

Russell Walker was not born in Orlando, Scotland to be precise, but Orlando is now his home.

A leader in the local LGBT community, he worked once a week at Pulse nightclub where 49 people were murdered.

"It doesn't make you scared. I've never felt scared being an out gay man. Maybe I should be but that is not going to change," said Walker.

Walker knows those watching can't be there to help, but there is something that can be done -- donate.

"These numbers seem massive, but when you think of the number of victims, the number of staff, the number overall of who is affected by that and the needs they are going to have," said Walker.

Walker says while donations may seem like a drop in the bucket, it will eventually help those who are hurting most.
