The Racine County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

Initial reports indicate two Racine police officers responded to a 911 call in the 3000 block of Durand Avenue, and found Utvic armed with a knife.

The reports also indicate Utvic refused to drop the knife, and advanced on the officers -- who were ordering him to drop the weapon.

Utvic was shot and killed by one of the officers.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office says it will conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into this shooting.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation due to a recently-enacted law that requires officer-involved shootings be investigated by an outside agency.

Once that investigation has reached its logical conclusion, it will be forwarded to the Racine County District Attorney's Office for review.
