"I'm still alive!" Missing nine-year-old boy found safe, reunited with family

MILWAUKEE -- There was a happy ending after hours of concern over a nine-year-old boy who went missing on Sunday night, June 5th. That boy was reunited with his family on Monday morning, June 6th after he was found at a home near 16th and Mitchell.

Police said Monday morning Vladimer Perez-Medina was found safe after he was last seen around 8:30 p.m. Sunday near 5th and Mitchell. He had been attending the "Sun Fair" on the city's south side.

"I'm still alive!" Perez-Medina said as he was reunited with his family.

Perez-Medina's mother, Carmella Medina said her son got separated from her during the Sun Fair. Medina spoke with FOX6 News through a translator Monday.

"He was found in the fair, by people that (the boy's mom) knew," the translator said.

"I went to their house to call my mom. My mom didn't answer," Perez-Medina said.

While Mom worried and wondered about her son's whereabouts, Perez-Medina spent the night in the home near 16th and Mitchell.

"We're still talking to them -- trying to figure out what took so long to notify us," Sgt. Benjamin Fellers with the Milwaukee Police Department said.

"She says she's just happy. She's grateful. She prayed to God that he return him to her," the boy's mother said through the translator.

Carmella Medina thanked all of those who helped to ensure this story had a happy ending.

"She's gonna just hug him and give him love, and she doesn't -- she hopes no other mother has to go through that," the translator said.

Milwaukee police say as the city's festival season gets underway, perhaps this story can serve as a reminder for folks to remain vigilant.
