Improper use of fireworks leads to house fire in Racine: $3,000 in damage

RACINE -- Officials with the Racine Fire Department say the improper use of fireworks led to a house fire on the Fourth of July.

It happened at a home near 16th and Packard Avenue shortly before 9:00 p.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, fire officials found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the building.

The fire was quickly contained while additional crews searched for occupants and fire extension -- with neither found.

The fire was a result of the improper use of fireworks, officials say.

Those who live in the home are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The fire caused $3,000 worth of damage to the home.

No one was hurt.
