Is Gov. Walker vindicated or does he owe an apology?

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Is Gov. Scott Walker vindicated -- or does he owe an apology? That depends on who you ask.

A John Doe investigation nabbed six of Scott Walker's closest former employees -- accusing them of stealing and doing illegal campaign work. Many felt the investigation wasn't aimed at Walker's staff -- but at Gov. Walker himself.

The announcement on Friday, March 1st was sent via a news release from Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm. Now, Republicans, like Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, says it is time to move on.

"He went to the D.A. He said there were things that were wrong and needed to be prosecuted. But he has been absolutely exonerated for any charges that could be brought against him," said Vos.

Democratic Minority Leader Peter Barca says all of those convicted, were hired and supervised by Walker.

While there are no criminal charges against the governor, Barca says Walker does owe taxpayers something.

"I think he should apologize and he should explain to the public what he's doing to put steps in place, to make sure the people he hires and supervises never appear in this situation again," said Barca.

Both sides agree, they are happy the John Doe investigation is over.
