It hurts: Grandfather speaks out as officials ID teens inside stolen vehicle during pursuit, killed in crash

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office on Monday, January 23rd identified the two teens who died after a police pursuit with a stolen vehicle ended in a crash near 31st and Capitol Friday evening, January 20th. Meanwhile, relatives of the boys said they're shocked to learn they were mixed up in illegal activity.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 15-year-old Antoine Jones, a freshman at South Division High School. The passenger has been identified as 18-year-old Oscar Rash, a senior in high school.

The autopsy report shows the vehicle the boys were in was split in two when emergency responders arrived at the scene.

Police on Friday evening located a Volkswagen Passat taken in an armed robbery that occurred around 7:15 p.m. Friday, near 29th and Villard.

Around 8:00 p.m., officers attempted to stop the Volkswagen, but the driver refused and sped off. The officers pursued the vehicle.

Officials say at the intersection of 31st and Capitol, the driver of the stolen Volkswagen failed to stop at a red light and was struck by a Chevy Cavalier traveling on 31st Street.

The Volkswagen then struck a light pole and sustained severe damage.

The driver of the Chevy suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Authorities recovered a handgun inside the stolen vehicle.

No other injuries were reported.

Rash's grandfather spoke with FOX6 News on Monday, and said the loss of his grandson "hurts."

Vincent Lewis said he's devastated. He said he raised Rash since he was a toddler.

"I'm dealing with a lot right now," Lewis said.

Lewis said he was shocked to learn Rash and Jones had crashed while trying to flee police.

"He was a good kid. I don`t know what happened," Lewis said.

Lewis said not only is he now without his grandson, Rash's son will grow up without ever knowing his father.

"He was working. He had a little baby on the way. It`s a tragedy," Lewis said.
