"It went straight up into the air:" Scary moments behind the wheel prove dangers of flying ice
MENOMONEE FALLS -- Flying ice is a danger far more common than you might think. One Milwaukee man found that out when a piece of ice off a minivan fell in front of him and crashed into his windshield traveling at about 60 miles-per-hour.
The incident occurred near I-45 just south of Mill Road in Milwaukee.
Keep in mind this was more than a week since the big snowstorm struck Monday, December 28th. But clearly some vehicles still carry that snow and ice.
Adam Anderson came face to face with a sheet of snow and ice in what was a very close call.

"It went like straight up into the air like a wind catching a sail," said Anderson.
But the chunk that came barreling at him didn't miss.
"I quickly looked to the left and I saw I couldn't make a move. Just the loud noise. Just the impact was, it was crazy. It was like something I've never experienced -- it was the scariest thing I've ever, that's ever happened to me," said Anderson.
Anderson was driving a work truck traveling south on I-45 when the ice fell from a minivan driving ahead of him.
"The seat is just covered in glass -- covered in glass," said Anderson.

He didn't have a passenger but looking at the damage, he started to think about those "what if's."
"I can't imagine not going home to my wife or son because of something that could have been prevented in only five minutes," said Anderson.
Wisconsin State Trooper Juner Schulz says he sees it all too often.
"There are a considerable number of cars that do not take the snow and ice off before they drive whether they are going to work or to go pick up their children and it's just not safe," said Schulz.
Schulz says he will issue a citation if he considers the amount of snow or ice left on a vehicle excessive or dangerous -- whether it's fallen off or not. If it does fall off, he says the driver of that vehicle is responsible for all the subsequent damage.
As for the driver in Anderson's case, he says he or she never stopped.
