"It's just amazing!" Wisconsin Humane Society gives group of southern dogs a second chance at life
MILWAUKEE -- They were dogs in dire straits, but the Wisconsin Humane Society stepped in to save their lives. Now, some southern canines are hoping to have Wisconsin homes.
They're already adorable and soon they'll be available for adoption.
Thursday, October 15th, Miles and Richard continue settling into their new surroundings as two of seven dogs who have made their way to the Wisconsin Humane Society -- and safety.

"It's just amazing! They made this trip, a thousand miles to come here to Milwaukee," said Angela Speed, Wisconsin Humane Society.
Speed says the dogs had been housed at a shelter in Augusta, Georgia which is known for its high "kill rate," in part because the facility does not have the ability to treat many of the dogs medical issues and place the dogs.
"It's really quite touching to meet those dogs and know they would have died otherwise, had they not been a part of this transport program," said Speed.

According to Speed, the Wisconsin Humane Society has earned a reputation as a place where dogs in such situations can be moved to receive the care and treatment they need to prepare for placement.
This status, Speed explains, is due to the support the community offers to its animals.
"Now, they're looking at a whole new chapter of their lives that's a lot brighter for them," Speed said.
The question is, whose life are they going to light up?
Speed says one dog, Miles, the beagle, should be ready for adoption on Friday, October 16th.

The others, following testing and treatment, are expected to be available within a couple of weeks.
