Jet skier stranded on Lake Michigan, rescued by Racine Fire Dept.

RACINE -- A jet skier out on Lake Michigan from Racine got stranded on Wednesday afternoon, March 9th.

The operator got stranded about two miles out from the Racine shore -- when his machine would not start.

The operator called 911 from his cell phone.

The Racine Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard were dispatched.

The Racine Fire Department rescued the individual and towed the jet skit back to shore.

The call for this incident came in around 3:30 p.m.

Officials say the jet skier was wearing a life jacket.

Officials caution that while temperatures outside have been warm -- in the 60s and even 70s this week, the water temperature on Lake Michigan is still low -- around 38 degrees.
