Judge sets hearing on right-to-work stay request

MADISON — A judge in Madison has set a hearing on state attorneys' request to say his ruling striking down Wisconsin's right-to-work law.

Right-to-work laws prohibit businesses and unions from reaching agreements that require all workers, not just union members, to pay union dues.

Three unions filed a lawsuit last year challenging Wisconsin's law as an illegal taking of union services since unions must represent all employees in a workplace even if workers don't pay dues.

Dane County Circuit Judge William Foust ruled in the unions' favor earlier this month, finding the law unconstitutional. State Justice Department attorneys have asked him to stay the ruling pending an appeal.

Foust has scheduled a hearing on the request for Monday morning, April 25th at the Dane County courthouse.
