A sign of good things to come and it leads some local musicians to be cautiously optimistic about returning to the stage.
"When people want to have fun, when they want to remember, when they want to have good times when they want to create new memories, they go see a band," said Josh Quinn, the Cheap Shots Lead Singer. "Music is the great equalizer."
And for local artists – like the group called The Cheap Shots, the lead singer says, after what they experienced last year — it’s about time.
"Our summers are always filled with festivals. And last year it was like dominos, like one after the next after the next – like non-stop. We’re getting calls, we’re getting e-mails, we’re canceling – we’re canceling," Quinn said. "So things are looking up, this year – obviously."
On the whole – it’s a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to festivals canceling – or staying open. And for this musician – he says he gets it, people need to be cautious.
"I understand why festivals are canceling," Quinn said. "You have vendors that you are beholden to, you have a lot of money tied up in festivals, you have to make those contracts out months and months in advance. "
But he hopes that with more people getting vaccinated – it becomes safer to go back to doing the things we love.
"I think festivals this summer are going to be packed with people, and that makes a lot of people nervous, and I understand," he said.
A bit of group therapy – in the form of live music.
